Orthopedic Protocols: Infratonic therapy is used frequently and effectively to relieve pain and to accelerate healing in orthopedic injuries involving fractures and torn tendons. The most physical of orthopedic injuries is the bone fracture and the aid provided by the Infratonic to fracture patients earns deep respect for this modality. Damage to cartilage is generally slow to heal due to lack of blood circulation but Infratonic therapy has been used frequently toward pain relief and mobility.
Infratonic therapy immediately reduces inflammation in the muscles and synovial tissue of joints as measured by infrared thermography. Further, over a period of weeks, Infratonic therapy shows decreasing levels of diagnostic enzymes AST (aspartate amino transferase) and CPK (creatine phosphokinase) in the blood and an increase in production of Hyaluronic acid, the viscous oil that lubricates joints. Hyaluronic acid also accelerates wound healing, strengthens muscles, reduces scar tissue formation and normalizes existing scar tissue, creates hard and soft structures within the myofascial tissues.
In clinical practice, the Infratonic 8 has proven to be highly effective in the aftermath of orthopedic injuries and surgeries.
Orthopedic Basic Protocol
The basic protocol for all orthopedic injuries is to first apply the Mind signal to the pain, inflammation, and edema, at the site of the injury and, when the tissue and nerves have been calmed, which may take hours or days, then apply the Body signal to the same area to vitalize the area to accelerate cellular healing. You should also apply the Mind signal to all surrounding areas which might influence healing, including adjacent tissue, swollen tissue and nerve, blood and lymphatic pathways. This is because all of the cells in the area of the injury have shared some degree of the trauma, and have the ability to manufacture needed cellular building blocks and can therefore contribute to healing of an injury if they are de-traumatized. Trauma, both physical and psychological, affects the entire area, not just the damaged tissue.
For old physical trauma (damaged cells), where there is no sign of inflammation, the Body signal is the most effective to energize the area of injury and accelerate healing. This includes fractures, torn ligaments, cartilage and muscle after the initial phase of inflammation and edema.
For treatment of abnormal cellular behavior due to traumatized cells, principally production of inflammation and edema, the Mind signal is the most effective. This includes the production of pain producing enzymes and repressed production of needed natural organic compounds.
Where the whole body is reactive – when the person feels they are “out of sorts”, or where their thinking process appears to be influencing healing, then the Spirit signal, applied to the chest (thymus) or swept over the entire body for a few minutes will prove efficacious.
Therefore, it is best to treat old injuries with the Body signal and the inflamed and swollen tissue with the Mind signal. Any “psychosomatic” or conscious involvement is best treated with the Spirit signal.
Increased Pain: In acute injury, application of Infratonic therapy will often cause increased pain as tissue normalization also means normalization of nerve functions. The best strategy is to go slow – it is not practical to cause the maximum amount of pain even if it provides the maximum rate of healing, as patients are generally not cooperative with this strategy. As an alternative strategy, start gradually.
First, move the transducer about two feet away from the injured tissue and let the signal penetrate from a distance. Gradually move the unit closer (or further away) until the patient feels a slight increase in pain, and then sweep from head to toe across the injury. You will find that over a period of minutes you will be able to move the transducer closer and closer to the injury site with minimal increase in pain.
Sweeping: A sweeping protocol is beneficial where there is substantial increased pain on application of the Infratonic. Start with the Spirit signal, which probably will produce the least pain. Sweep (with the Spirit) from head to toe across the injury for a minute, then switch to the Mind signal and continue sweeping, focusing more on the injury site. Then, switch to the Body signal and sweep from a foot above to a foot below the injury with occasional whole body sweeps. The goal should be a level of discomfort that is tolerable to the patient, understanding that some degree of discomfort is expected (and frequently equated with high efficacy) in the treatment of acute injury.
The speed of sweeping is determined by which signal is being used. As a general rule, the Body signal can be swept more slowly, about six inches per second, and the Mind and Spirit signals faster – with the Mind signal sweeping about one foot per second and the Spirit signal about two feet per second.
Sweeping is most effective if the transducer is aimed toward the body and tilted toward the direction of sweeping at a 45° angle.
